“Culture, ancient times, and effort for independence”

On the occasion of the celebration of the 95th anniversary of the declaration of independence and creation of the Albanian nation, the museum of the cultural heritage centre of the Tumulus of Kamenica organized, on November 28th, 2007 a scientific and memorial activity. Thanks to the five papers presented in this seminar:

Lorenc Bejko “Research and scientific activity in the Tumulus of Kamenica”

Skënder Aliu “Characteristics of the Illyrian culture in the proto-urban and urban periods in southeast Albania”

Sonila Bitincka “Elements of the iliro-arbërore culture in the archaeological and ethnographic material”

Dhimitër Bello “Toponyms in the upper Devoll valley”

Nuredin Nazarko “Contribution of the population of the Korça region in the battle for independence”

was reinforced the thesis that southeast Albania is an area with a long cultural, economic, and social development, and has represented a territory with a well defined profile and an important role in the history of the Albanian people.

Through the archaeological, ethnographic, linguistic, and historical data has been pointed out the distinctive cultural identity and social progress of single communities and of the whole population of the Korça region, with particular reference to its contribution to the movement for the national independence. The seminar was attended by a large number of public, and was followed by interesting discussions about archaeology and cultural identity of the region.
